He won his sixth big money title of an incredible season by retaining the St Andrews Invitation Classic crown on Saturday – and the £500 first prize has been added to a special fund.

For the 30-year-old Castlefields star is expecting a baby with his Shrewsbury-based partner Zoe, with the due date just six weeks away, and the money has gone into their nappy and new home account.

And this latest triumph in Blackburn was particularly sweet for undisputed British No.1 Wraight as he gained revenge over Yorkshire star Stuart King by beating him 21-14 in the final.

“It was sweet as I’d waited three years for that after Stuart beat me 21-4 in the Crosfield Cup final at Greenfields after a couple of other single-figure scores,” said Wraight.

“I feel on fire at the minute but every time I bowl I’m thinking about nappies!”

Wraight’s victims in the St Andrews Classic were Gary Ellis 21-19, Steve Fisher 21-15, Stuart Mort 21-10 and then King.

But four games on a humid day eventually took their toll as Wraight then raced over to take his place in qualifying for the Wigan Subs Classic.

Arriving just in time for the evening session, he beat Steve Davies 31-25 but the bowed out 31-21 against Duncan Watkins.
