Opening night in the Tanners Shropshire League tomorrow heralds the approach of an action-packed weekend.

Castlefields A start their defence of the Division One title at Crescent while Prince of Wales Hotel will boast two teams in the top flight for the first time.

The Tanners league have their heldover 2018 Champion of Champion singles KO on Sunday at Old Shrewsbury from 11am.

Wrockwardine Wood go chasing more British Ladies Club championship glory in Mid Cheshire (preview in Saturday’s paper) while Shropshire bowlers on the fringe of the main county team aim for success in the eight-a-side Midland Alliance at Florence Private in Stoke.

Two bowlers already secure in the senior team, Callum Wraight and Ashley Wellings, also head north on Sunday to take their places in the last 16 for finals day in the Woodley Spring Classic in Stockport.

n The new-look Shropshire Senior Inter-League Championship has lift-off on Saturday.

Three preliminary round ties starting at 7pm at neutral venues mark the change to a straight eight-a-side knockout after 11 sides entered.

Title holders SPS Whitchurch A take on North Shropshire Ladies on the big green at Bridgewater with the likes of Derek Wright, Martin Lloyd, Dave Hanson and Chris Stretch in their ranks.

SPS Whitchurch B have to tackle the Burway boys of the Flowfit Ludlow League at Hadley USC, including Easter hero Wayne Rogers, while Tanners Shropshire meet Market Drayton on the old green at Bowring.

n North Shropshire will proudly field a third of the teams that will contest the British Parks Junior 10-a-side Championship in Yorkshire this weekend.

Two sides will represent the Whitchurch-based association on Sunday at Cleckheaton Sports when the host county will look to retain the title when the action starts at 10am. North Shropshire B will face holders Yorkshire A and South Yorkshire in their qualifying group while the A team will tackle Yorkshire B and East Midlands in their group, the winners of the two sections to meet in the final.

The selectors of North Shropshire will pick from: Halle Crawford, Edward Proudlove, Louise Ralphs, Josh Warner, James Wilkinson, Charlie Wilkinson & Josh Wilkinson (all AWC); Jos Parsons, Austin Wilson, Harry Wilson & Harry Brookes (all Adderley); Eloise Fenwick & Zoe Fenwick (both Calverhall); Jack Purcell (Chester Road); James Shepherd (Childs Ercall); Ben Hinton (District); Leo Hughes (Hanmer); Susie Lawson, Molly Harris and Finn Leonard (all Malpas Sports); Wayd Pawlowski (Wem USC).

A double dose of British Parks action on Sunday also sees the re-arranged 2018 Ladies Merit finals at Wadsley House in Sheffield.
