Whitchurch and Wellington are relegated

Three years on from their promotion to the premier division, Wellington dropped out of the top flight on a day when none of the six matches involving Shropshire clubs were completed due to rain.

Whitchurch were also left to contemplate the drop with three games remaining after their maiden season in division one ended in disappointment.

Wellington – who like Whitchurch have failed to register a league win all season – were condemned to the drop when their home clash with Berkswell was abandoned.

The visitors made a valiant attempt to open up a rain-affected game up as they raced to 204-2 inside 41 overs before declaring.

Wellington were then reduced to 35-2 before the poor weather set in for the day.

Elsewhere in the premier division, a potentially exciting finish between Shrewsbury and leaders Walsall was ruined by the rain

Shrewsbury had reached 38-2 in reply to their hosts 215, an innings which proved a topsy-turvy affair.

The hosts had progressed to 76-0 before Shrewsbury's spinners got to work with Rob Foster taking 4-58 and Elliot Green 3-58.

That reduced Walsall to 148-7, only for the bottom order to support centurion James Middleton.

Whitchurch had to defeat Kenilworth at Heath Road to stand any chance of prolonging their division one season, but failed to bowl a ball.

Shifnal all but confirmed their safety thanks to a winning draw at promotion-chasing Walmley.

The Collins brothers proved the stars of the show with the bat, Tom's unbeaten 69 backed up by 59 from George as Shifnal posted 228-6 in a match reduced to 50 overs.

Jonty Mountford then completed his excellent weekend with 5-45 – he took eight wickets against Whitchurch on Saturday – as Walmley were reduced to 109-5.

Oswestry remain top of the division three pile by 23 points after just 13.4 overs play was possible in their top-of-the-table home clash with Aston Manor.

The Morda Road men had reached 40-3 before the rain had the final say after delaying the start until 3pm.

Bridgnorth's promotion hopes appear over after they were denied a potential victory at Stourbridge.

Mark MacPrehson-Lees' side had reached 35-1 in the 10th over when play was abandoned in pursuit of 129 in 45 overs.

Leg-spinner Sam Whitney took 5-23 off 13 overs to help restrict Stourbridge to 128-9, but Bridgnorth are now 38 points adrift of the promotion spots with just three games remaining.
