Shrewsbury cricketer Steve Leach on Aussie route to stardom
Highly-rated Shrewsbury batsman Steve Leach is widening his cricket education by spending the winter in Australia at an Academy run by a top former international star.
Leach, 18, whose older brother Joe has been rewarded for his breakthrough to the Worcestershire first team with a one-year contract at New Road, is currently in Adelaide at the Darren Lehmann Academy.
He's also playing first grade cricket for Southern Districts in the South Australia Grade Cricket League.
It can only help the development of the exciting prospect who hopes, in time, to follow his brother into the County Championship.
Steve, who is on a summer contract at Worcestershire, appeared regularly for the Pears second team last season and underlined his exciting potential by cracking an unbeaten 178 against Gloucestershire.
"I know I'm probably biased but he's got a very bright future if he gets his head down," said Joe, four years Steve's senior. "It's a great opportunity for Steve to be opening in first grade cricket."
Leach, a run machine for Shrewsbury School in recent years, has also become a regular member of Shrewsbury's Birmingham League premier division side.
