Wem are wary of dangerman Mal Serplet ahead of Shropshire County League match
Wem skipper Chris Peel says his team will be on high alert against Reman Services 'match-winner' Mal Serplet on Saturday.
The teams, who are currently first and second in the Shropshire County League Premier Division after five matches, will meet at Kynaston Cricket Ground in a highly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash.
And Peel has identified run-machine Serplet as one of the opposition's key dangermen.
Serplet top-scored for Reman last season with 965 runs, and has 155 from five games so far this summer.
Peel said: "Mal has been there for a while and we all know what he is about. He is a class act and if he bats well he can win games for them.
"He is one to watch but they are a decent side all round. It will be an interesting game and we know each other very well.
"On our day we can both beat each other."
Peel was keen to play down talk of a title tilt this early in the season and said his players would not treat Saturday's game differently to any other.
"We are only five games in so we will just do what we always do and hopefully we will get a positive result," he said.
Reman skipper Ed Ashlin was less equivocal about the importance of the game.
He said: "It is probably the biggest game of the season so far. Wem are a very good team and they have got a very strong side.
"Their overseas player Gareth Dreyer is a very good batsman and bowls a bit of off-spin as well.
"We'd like to get him out early if we can but they have got other strong batsman and good young bowlers too so it will just be a matter of who performs on the day."
Ludlow, third, and Worfield, fourth, will also be aiming to break into the top two when they face each other this weekend.
They will start the game seven and 10 points behind Reman knowing that victory for either could see them leapfrog the sides above.
Fifth-placed Wroxeter Grove will host Newtown, who are aiming to keep as much distance between themselves and the relegation zone as possible.
The visitors will start the day third from bottom, but have a 19 point buffer.
