Table-toppers are told to keep up the pace
Captain Ben Byram today told St Georges to maintain their impressive early season standards as they sit top of the Shropshire League Premier Division.
Byram was forced to undertake a watching brief due to a chest infection, as St Georges recorded an impressive three-wicket success against Reman Services.
A disciplined bowling display restricted Reman to 179-6, skipper Ed Ashlin top scoring with 34 while South African Tylor Trenoweth and Jamie Griffiths claimed two wickets apiece for St Georges.
Teenager Mitchell Hoof then led the victory charge with a composed 65 not out, while Griffiths contributed 35.
Bryam said: "It's nice to be top of the table, although it's obviously very early days. We have set a benchmark with our performances so far and need to maintain that.
"It was a very good win on Saturday because we knew we were going to be in for a tough game, that's always the case against Reman.
"I managed to get up later on in the afternoon to watch and the feedback is it was one of our best displays for a long time.
"All the bowlers bowled really well and we kept the pressure on what is a very strong batting line up.
"And then Mitchell played a very mature innings. He spent the winter playing in Australia and we are already seeing the gains from that."
Andy Harrison was bowled over by Cound's ruthless seven-wicket victory against Quatt.
Harrison led from the front as he and fellow opening bowler Adam Williams took advantage of seamer-friendly conditions to rip through the Quatt top order.
Williams bagged 5-36 and Harrison 3-37 as Quatt were dismissed for 131– a total that would have been much worse, but for some late resistance from Danny Hall (42) and Jonathan Edwards (23).
Joe Yapp (65 not out) and Matthew Jones (28) then saw Cound home.
Harrison admitted: "I would say whoever won the toss won the game," admitted Harrison. "The conditions were perfect for bowling. It was our best performance of the season."
