Whitchurch are undone by old-boy
Whitchurch were on the end of a blast from the past as they crashed to a six-wicket defeat to C&R Hawks in Division Three.
Their former all-rounder Omar Ali (4-47) produced the best figures for Hawks as the hosts decided to bat and reached 188 all out in 48.5 overs.
A seventh-wicket stand of 98 between Mohammed Hasnain (66) and Simon Dimelow (49) helped Whitchurch recover from 55-6 to reach 188 all out.
But an unbeaten 89 from Saqib Akbar and 32 from Mubeen Rashid saw the visitors home.
Whitchurch skipper Maisam Hasnain admitted a poor performance with the bat had proved costly.
"At one stage we were really struggling, but even with that recovery it wasn't enough on that pitch," said Hasnain.
"It was not enough runs to protect, we should have got about 250. We were missing a couple of bowlers so we always knew we'd be struggling with the ball a little bit.
"We have struggled with people being unavailable but hopefully this week we will be able to get our strongest side out."
Worfield beat Kings Heath by three wickets in the division's highest scoring game.
Joseph Arnold claimed 5-40 and Gagandeep Singh and James Parker both took two wickets each as Kings Heath were dismissed for 253 in 47 overs.
But 65 from Tom Pickerill, Patrick Butler (42), who was given out for obstructing the field, and 41 from Will Cook took Worfield to their target in 48.1 overs to clinch a second victory of the season.
Skipper Nick Hudson didn't play in the win but was delighted with the result.
"We bowled very well because it was a good batting wicket and they got off to a very good start," he said.
"We pegged them back and then when we got in we batted well and batted sensibly.
"We set ourselves a platform to take on the bowling in the last 15/20 overs and that's what we did. It's our second win and I'm really chuffed."
Shrewsbury went down by 22 runs in a tight Premier Division game at home to Berkswell.
Berkswell recovered from 19-3 and 127-7 to reach 204 all out at London Road.
Mike Barnard (2-33), Ed Foster (2-17), Charlie Morris (2-63) and Dan Manders, who claimed 2-9 off just 3.1 overs, picked up two wickets each for Shrewsbury, who lost early wickets in their reply.
Anthony Parker top scored with 45 off 44 balls for Shrewsbury, who are eighth.
Meanwhile Wellington crashed to a 166-run defeat at Barnards Green in Division One.
An opening stand of 113 between Andrew Curtis, who went on to make119, and George Rhodes (46) helped the hosts post an imposing total of 269-9.
There were three wickets each for Trevor Garwe (3-36) and Wendell Wagner (3-42) but the target always looked like it would be too much for the visitors.
In reply, Wellington collapsed to 103 all out despite 35 from opener Sam Lloyd as the Orleton Park men were dismissed in 31.4 overs.
Last man Anthony O'Connor with 21 not out was the only other Wellington batsman to reach double figures on a disappointing afternoon.
Wellington are eighth, one place above Oswestry, who suffered a home defeat to Harborne by 15 runs.
The home side won the toss and inserted the Birmingham outfit, dismissing them for 167 at Morda Road as skipper Mark Robinson finished with 4-36.
Sam Huxley took 2-16 off 2.4 overs as Harborne were all out in just 36.4 overs.
But Oswestry failed to build on opener Joe Clarke's 55 off 41 balls as Dominic Badger with 3-28 and George Land (3-40) did most of the damage for Harborne.
Robinson hit 48 off 66 balls to help his side recover from 109-8, but when he departed with the score on 145 so did Oswestry's hopes of claiming victory.
In Division two, skipper Tom Collins hailed Shifnal's never-say-die attitude after they edged a thriller against Old Elizabethans to register their second success of the season.
In a low-scoring game Shifnal were dismissed for 139 with Bryn Simmons's 27 their highest scorer.
John Major was the chief destroyer for the visitors as he finished with astonishing figures of 5-10 off 6.5 overs.
Things looked bleak for the hosts with Old Elizabethans on 119-4 and seemingly on course for victory.
But a partnership of 53 was broken by Alex Riley and that sparked a collapse with six wickets falling for 11 runs to leave the visitors 130 all out, Riley taking 3-32 to help claim a nine-run victory.
"We have been on the losing side of two close ones so it was nice to be on the right side of this one," said Collins.
"I thought we were about 20 runs short but it was a wicket where it was hard for the batsmen to score.
"We always knew that once we got through their top half we would be in with a chance.
"The boys all stuck together really well and kept going, even when it looked as if the match wasn't going to go our way."
Collins also praised Simmons for his role in helping spur Shifnal on to a dramatic victory.
"I think Bryn has been a revelation for us and was on at us all day," added Collins. "When we got the fifth wicket he was the one who got us all together and said 'Come on, we can do this'."
Bridgnorth are second in Division Two after a seven-wicket success at Wombourne.
Ian Gregory took 4-59 to help restrict Wombourne, who won the toss and elected to bat, to 217-9 from their 50 overs.
Bridgnorth clinched their fourth win of the season with 75 from skipper James Ralph, 40 from fellow opener Karl Quiney, Tom Whitney (46) and a quickfire 37 not out off 21 balls from Simon Gregory, as they reached their target in the first ball of the 41st over.
