Chris Peel shares the plaudits after Wem win
Chris Peel shared the plaudits after his milestone innings helped fire Wem to a 248-run win at home to Wroxeter Grove in the Shropshire League Premier Division.
Skipper Peel smashed his best total for the club, an explosive 134 off just 133 balls which included 11 fours and one six.
But he was quick to praise the efforts of fellow batsmen Harry Chandler and Matt Cohen, who managed 90 and 78 not out as Wem made 371-3.
Peel said: "That was my highest score for Wem but it was just a really good team performance.
"I don't really want to talk about myself. I got some runs, Harry got some runs, Matt Cohen got some runs and Dan Cohen got 5-28 with the ball."
He added: "A score like ours suggests that the opposition didn't bowl that well but they actually did, especially in the first 10-15 overs.
"We had to ride it out a bit but when we got through that the ball stopped swinging as much and we cashed in."
Wem racked up the runs before dismissing Wroxeter Grove for just 123.
Dan Cohen, Richard Maree (2-30) and James Astley (2-24) all enjoyed lucrative spells with the ball.
Wem are fifth after that win but St Georges remain the team to beat, after cruising to a nine-wicket success at Broseley.
They dismissed the hosts for just 84 in the 21st over and then eased to their target in just 20.
Second-placed Frankton defeated Madeley by the same emphatic margin.
Ryan Finn (3-23) and Thomas Welti (4-39) helped skittle the visitors for 127 and Scott Hale then smashed an unbeaten 69, which included 12 fours, to help Frankton to victory in the 34th over.
Explosive bowling from Ludlow's Sam Edwards played a crucial role as his side snatched a 10-run victory at home to Cound.
The home side's 187 all out had looked to be under serious threat when Cound moved to 164-7.
But Edwards took three of last four wickets, for just four runs, to help ensure a narrow victory.
Joe Watson (4-28) was also in fine form as Newport defeated Bomere Heath by six wickets.
Ian Gillespie managed a fine 74 but the visitors lost their last five wickets for just 16 runs for 152 all out.
Unbeaten half-centuries from Mark Downes and Ryan Jakeman helped ease Newport home for the loss of four wickets.
