Ace Welti destroys St Georges for Frankton
Frankton hailed bowler Thomas Welti after he helped destroy St Georges in their latest victory to stay top of the Shropshire League Premier Division.
Off-spinner Welti claimed seasonal bests with bat and ball as the leaders reached their target in the 46th over, for the loss of seven wickets.
Welti claimed 5-42 off 14 overs to help dismiss the Telford side for 199 – his first 'five-fer' of 2015.
Then he made light of Frankton missing three batsmen which saw him promoted to No 3 in the order, to top score with 69 not out.
Captain Ian Whitticase, who was one of the absentees, said: "Tom has bowled really well all season but Saturday was the first time he's really scored a lot of runs.
"But he likes to play his shots and get at the bowlers and normally has a decent run rate. He bowls really tightly, too, and in some ways he should be getting more wickets."
Frankton are now 11 points clear, but Whitticase has poured cold water on their title claims.
He said: "We're still up there but we've got Wem (third) this weekend and if we get something out of that we will have done well.
"The players have got a lot of confidence but there's still a long way to go."
Bomere Heath believe they can climb the table, after emerging with a four-wicket victory in their game with basement side Wroxeter Grove.
Tight bowling from seamer Chris Stevens restricted Wroxeter to a modest 118 in 35.3 overs, Charlie Haylett (39) being Grove's leading batsman.
Captain Chris Edenborough made 41 as Bomere rattled to their target in the 21st over, although Jon Harris took 4-21 off just 3.5 overs.
Edenborough said: "It was definitely a big win for us. We've been there or thereabouts all season but we've lacked confidence.
"Hopefully, this will give us the belief to get a couple more wins to climb the table.
"We know the league is a lot stronger this year but we competed on every level last year and took some big wins, so I can't see why we can't do it again."
Edenborough was also impressed with the performance, adding: "The bowlers did a good job which gave us not many runs to chase, and Chris is really back on form."
Broseley's Neill Jordan scattered wickets galore in the Ludlow and South Shropshire batting order – but still ended up on the losing side.
Jordan took 8-44 but Ludlow (166 all out) still won by 48 runs, after restricting the visitors to 118.
Jack Griffiths hit 70 for Ludlow and Will Sparrow 39, while the latter claimed 3-53 and Kevin Hinton took 4-26.
Quatt enjoyed a winning draw against Madeley. The villagers amassed 219-9 with Craig Harris (58) and captain Hayden Cargo (41) leading the way.
Andrew Lloyd's unbeaten 67 helped Madeley hang on and Terry Hughes (3-33) did is best to disrupt the innings.
Newport eased to a nine-wicket victory against struggling Cound, who were all out for 51 with Mark Downes taking 5-36 and Joe Watson 3-4.
After dismissing the visitors in the 26th, Newport romped home in just 9.4 overs, helped by Robert Furniss's 33 not out.
