Newport well clear after Wroxeter victory
Newport are 18 points clear at the top of the Shropshire League Premier Division after a five-wicket success at Wroxeter Grove.
Struggling Wroxeter were dismissed for just 86 in the bottom-versus-top clash but the leaders, surprisingly, lost five wickets as they reached their target.
However, they are still in the driving seat with just four league matches left to contest.
Matt Cohen made 71 and Harry Chandler 44, as nearest challengers Wem claimed 24 points at second-from-bottom Cound.
Wem set their hosts a challenge they never looked like completing after totalling 227. Cound were rolled over for 144 in reply with Wem's Richard Maree taking 5-49.
Third-placed Reman Services stayed in the hunt as they destroyed Ludlow & South Shropshire by 156 runs.
A 99-run middle-order partnership between Philip Caudle (76) and Craig Heath (74) helped Reman to an imposing 253-9.
Then Alex Johnson, Mal Serplet and David Laird took three wickets apiece as their opponents were blasted out for 97.
Broseley took 24 points from their visit to Quatt with a 13-run win.
They were limited to 140, with skipper Gavin Jones top scoring on 32 not out, Quatt's Gareth Jones taking 5-43 and Jonathan Edwards 4-30.
But the home side stumbled to 127 all out, with Edwards top scoring on an unbeaten 27 late in the order.
Bomere Heath boosted their survival chances with a three-wicket home win over fourth-placed Frankton.
The visitors made a paltry 60 in their innings as Chris Stevens claimed 7-24, but Bomere also struggled with the bat before limping home on 61-7.
Bomere are third from bottom, but 24 points clear of relegation-threatened Cound.
St George's and Madeley failed to produce a result because of the weather, the match abandoned after 41 overs of the home side's reply.
But Madeley opener Thomas Dangerambizi had earlier displayed his batting skills with 111, his highest score of the season, and Shaun Woodcock made 47 as their side totalled 227-4.
Tylor Trenoweth took 3-53. Trenoweth and fellow opener Gareth Hughes had both made 36 in St George's reply of 166-4.
Newport host Quatt this Saturday, with Wem at home to Ludlow & South Shropshire. Frankton host Reman Services as the battle for the title heats up.
