Bridgnorth start life in Division One with a win
Bridgnorth marked their first ever Birmingham & District League Division One outing in style by beating Moseley at the Cricket Meadow.
New-boy Dan Vernon shone with bat and ball as last season's Division Two champions secured a four-wicket success.
The elements forced a reduced overs contest with Moseley posting 163-9 from 35 overs.
Steven Sandhu (50) and Ali Awan (32) provided the baulk of the runs while Herefordshire spinner Vernon bagged 3-34.
Skipper Tom Whitney (2-34) and Worcestershire paceman Charlie Morris (2-26) provided the main support with the ball.
Bridgnorth made a poor start to their chase with Dave Exall falling to Fred Eburah before a run had been scored. Eburah added two more victims as the hosts slumped to 33-4.
Vernon and Morris then set about repairing the early damage with a 61-run stand before Vernon departed for a well-made 42 that included five fours and a six.
Morris then joined forces with Thomas Weaver to take the game away from Moseley.
Weaver struck eight fours on his way to 45 off 40 balls before falling just before the finishing line. Morris was left to see his side home, ending the afternoon unbeaten on 33.
Wellington were left ruing the weather after taking charge of their clash with Himley.
Skipper Wendell Wagner and Daniel Vaughan had helped reduce Himley to 132-7 in the 40th over when the rain brought an end to proceedings.
Seamer Wagner bagged 2-22 from his 10-over spell, while Vaughan had picked up 2-4 from three overs.
Oswestry tasted defeat on a rain-hit opening day of the Division Two season.
Johnathan Miles' side slipped to a 53-run reverse in their clash at Harborne.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Miles saw Harborne post 217-8 from 45 overs.
Tom Payne provided the backbone of the innings, falling five short of a century when he was caught by Miles of the bowling of Warrick Fynn.
Fynn claimed another scalp to finish with 2-29, with Mark Robinson recording identical figures. Charlie Morris and Daniel Bowen also bagged two wickets apiece.
Oswestry made a solid start to their response and had reached 80-1, with Fynn and Miles at the wicket.
But Fynn's exit for 33 kick-started a collapse that saw the visitors tumble to 164 all out, with Miles left unbeaten on 38. Alex Pyecroft was the chief destroyer with 4-36.
Shifnal's clash with Cannock & Rugeley Hawks was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Shrewsbury's defence of their Premier Division crown was also hit by the weather.
The reigning champions were 63-2 in the 19th over when their clash at Wolverhampton was washed out. Ed Foster was 28 not out.
The Division Three games involving Whitchurch, Newport and Worfield also fell victim to the elements.
Worfield had posted a challenging 218-4 in 37 overs against Lichfield. Openers Patrick Butler and Will Cook impressed, sharing a century stand.
Shropshire batsman Cook fell for 52, with Butler going on to finish an impressive 80 not out. Lichfield were 6-0 in the second over when the heavens opened.
New-boys Newport were 4-2 after three overs at Handsworth when the rain came. At Aston Manor, the hosts had reached 28-0 from 4.2 overs against Whitchurch before play was ended.
