Elliot Hitchen the hero in defeat of Wem
Australian new-boy Elliot Hitchen inspired Sentinel to victory in their Shropshire League Premier Division clash against Wem.
Hitchen, who plays his club cricket back home for Claremont Nedlands in Perth, hit nine fours and two sixes in compiling a match-winning unbeaten 85.
Sentinel made light work of their chase, advancing to 174-5 inside 36 overs.
It was Hitchen's third successive half-century for the club and he received support from Connor Cheshire (29) and fellow Aussie Mal Serplet (25).
Wem's South African paceman Kerwin Mungroo made it 20 wickets in the three games he has bowled in for the Kynaston Ground outfit by taking 4-40, but there was just no stopping Hitchen.
Wem's former Shropshire batsman Martyn Davies, the Market Drayton Town Football Club manager, was earlier in good touch, cracking 82.
Danny Cohen added 28 as the visitors were bowled out for 171, with Serplet (4-39) and Dominic Bradburne (3-47) inflicting much of the damage.
Broseley moved above Wem into second spot after Anthony Parker and Charl Cyster helped them beat Forton by 61 runs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Parker hit 63 as the visitors made 291-7 from their 50 overs.
Cyster was in inspired form with the ball and finished with figures of 6-76. Luke Adcock hit a battling 87 as the hosts were dismissed for 230.
Sam Bloor bowled Bomere Heath into a strong position at the halfway stage by taking 5-45 against Madeley, who were dismissed for 135 with Steve Jones making 40.
But Bomere, despite 36 from new overseas player Matthew Whitley and 23 from Tom Ellis, fell short in their chase, dismissed for 106.
Shelton were beaten by seven wickets at home by Frankton.
Australian Chad Hitchcock led a Shelton fightback with the bat by hitting 67 and Alex Salisbury weighed in with 27, as the Shrewsbury side were removed for 159.
But Frankton responded with 160-3 to head home comfortable winners.
Ludlow & South Shropshire had their bowlers to thank for victory in a low-scoring game against Albrighton.
Harry Martin top scored for Ludlow with just 26, as the home side were bowled out for 108 inside 30 overs.
But just two Albrighton batsman reached double figures as they were dismissed for 91.
Quatt edged a thriller against St Georges by two wickets in a game that went right to the death.
The visitors posted 184-8 with Jamie Griffiths top scoring with 45 and Terry Hughes taking four wickets.
Adrian Evans led the chase as wickets fell around him and his unbeaten 83 was enough to see the hosts home on the final ball.
Disappointed St Georges skipper Ben Byram felt his side were a little unlucky.
He believed things would have been different had an lbw appeal against Evans been given before he got off the mark.
He said: "Unfortunately some decisions didn't go our way, but we didn't take the chances that were presented to us.
"I think they needed 10 off the last over and then one off the last ball. We went into the changing room a bit deflated because it could have been a different story, but it just wasn't to be.
"The wicket wasn't bad but it wasn't the easiest. It was a bit low and slow and we thought 184 would be a competitive total – which it turned out to be."
