Quatt beat depleted Forton to stay top

Quatt remain top of the Shropshire League Premier Division after beating depleted basement side Forton by seven wickets.

The vistors won the toss and inserted the hosts, who reached a modest 127-9.

Antony Barrett's 45 was the highlight of their innings, while Jonathan Edwards claimed 4-26 to restrict them.

In reply, Quatt reached their target in just 22 overs, thanks to Tom Whitney, who hit an unbeaten 64, assisted by Craig Harris (38 not out). Matthew Sayer claimed 2-28.

Previous leaders Sentinel kept up the pressure on Quatt in second place with a four-wicket success over Shelton, to lie just three points behind in the battle of opposing Australians.

The home side won the toss and elected to field to see Shelton bowled out for 183 in 49.3 overs.

Shelton's Aussie, Chad Hitchcock, top scored for his side with 41 while Joe Timmis weighed in with 35 and Malcolm Serplet took 3-22.

Sentinel, helped by their Aussie Elliot Hitchen's 16, knocked them in 30 overs as Joe Yapp helped himself to 84 and Craig Heath assisted with an unbeaten 64. Ross Griffiths took 3-41.

Tyson Bray took centre stage as Albrighton defeated Madeley by five wickets. Bray claimed 3-36 to help restrict Madeley to 179 all out in the 43rd over.

Doug Reynolds (53) and Stephen Pugh (36) starred while Ben Nevis (4-21) assisted Bray, who then scored 68 as Albrighton won in the 45th over.

Wem earned the most eye-catching win of the weekend – and St Georges will be relieved to see the back of the Cohen brothers.

Chris Peel's side cemented third spot behind Quatt and Sentinel by thrashing the Telford outfit by 173 runs.

St Georges won the toss and elected to field and Wem piled up a respectable total of 239-6, backed by an impressive innings by Matt Cohen, who hit 116 off 120 balls, including 13 fours.

Sam Peate assisted Cohen with a steady 46 off 90 deliveries including seven boundaries, while captain Ben Byram did his best to restrict the flow of runs with 3-52.

Matt's brother Danny, a year younger at 23, and South African paceman Kerwin Mungroo then quickly ripped through the St Georges batting order, by claiming 5-17 and 4-28 respectively.

Ludlow are in fourth place, 11 points behind Wem after losing to seventh-placed Broseley by three wickets.

The South Shropshire side disappointed with the bat, reaching a modest 141 all out after 45 overs, checked heavily by Charl Cyster, who claimed 5-25 and Gavin Jones (3-19).

The highlight of their innings was number eight Luke Miles, who weighed in with a patient 40 off 76 balls.

Broseley had hit their target in the 39th over, with Jones (31) and Cyster (30) the mainstays and Nadeem Ahmad and captain Jonathan Lloyd hitting the winning runs.

Ludlow captain Will Sparrow did his best to hold Broseley back with 3-31.

Tom Wilkie had the honour of hitting the biggest individual score of the weekend as Frankton beat struggling Bomere Heath by 88 runs.

Wilkie smashed 123 and was assisted by Michael Eckard (59) as Frankton amassed an impressive 237-9.

Mark Lammie performed best with the ball, taking 3-13 off just 3.5 overs including the last two batsmen.

It built on the work done by Jacob Northwood (3-36) and Eckard (3-37) as Bomere were dismissed for 189.

Llyr Thomas and Matt Jones JNr were the pick of the villagers' batsmen with 45 and 47 respectively.
