Shropshire pace ace Alex Wyatt is hailed
Delighted director of cricket Karl Krikken hailed the quality of another impressive display from Shropshire's bowling attack after beating Oxfordshire by 56 runs.
Shropshire have now won both their matches in this season's Unicorns Championship.
They began their three-day campaign with victory over Dorset at Whitchurch earlier this month.
Sporting declarations from both sides after the second day's play at Aston Rowant was totally washed out left Oxfordshire chasing 300 to win.
But they were dismissed for 243, with paceman Alex Wyatt leading the way by taking 5-83.
Krikken said: "We came to an agreement at the start of the day we were going to set them around 300 in 90 overs and it did look like a good track.
"But Alex Wyatt bowled magnificently up front, ably supported by Sam Griffiths, and Richie Oliver bowled quite nicely as well.
"We got three quick wickets and then Oxfordshire built a partnership which was a bit of a nervous time, but we managed to break them up and got a couple of wickets again.
"We made inroads and, although they had a bit of a flirt with the bat towards the end, the job was more or less done then."
Krikken has been pleased with the impact of former Leicestershire bowler Wyatt.
He also shone in the opening Championship match when he took six wickets in the first innings against Dorset.
Krikken said: "They all bowled really well but Alex led the attack with a five-for and he bowled magnificently.
"He's a very good bowler. He didn't really get chance to bowl in the one-dayers because we didn't get enough runs.
"He just keeps going and going, so we're very pleased to have him on board and he's done a good job for us."
Krikken added Shropshire are now looking forward to trying to continue their encouraging start to the season in their next game against Cornwall at Bridgnorth.
He said: "It's a good feeling in the dressing room and we've just got to make sure they stay fit and they're ready to play."
