Shropshire rate their latest win as 'pivotal'
Match-winner David Wainwright reckons the win that put Shropshire top of the Unicorns Championship Western Division table could prove 'pivotal.'
Former Derbyshire star Wainwright cracked an unbeaten 80 as Shropshire leapfrogged Cornwall with a four-wicket win over the former leaders at Bridgnorth.
Set 246 for victory on the final day, Wainwright put on 150 for the fifth wicket with Worfield's Ross Aucott, who struck a fine 89.
Shropshire recovered from a precarious 64-4 to make it three wins out of three after opening the season with victories over Dorset and Oxfordshire.
Wainwright, who also took seven wickets against Cornwall and weighed in with 46 in the first innings, said: "It's an ideal start.
"Coming into the last day, we knew it was probably going to be a pivotal point of the season. They would have been three from three and it would have been hard to catch them.
"I'm just glad that we could get over the line."
Wainwright added: "It's just been a pleasure to play these three games and I'm looking forward to the next three."
Shropshire's director of cricket Karl Krikken was pleased with his side's display – and stressed they need to keep playing the same way as they look forward to hosting Berkshire , starting on July 17.
Krikken said: "It's three out of three, but you don't win a championship halfway through or get to the finals.
"Berkshire is the next game, at Shifnal, so we'll roll up with the same principles and play the same way. That's all we'll do. We'll turn up hopefully with a similar side and see how we go.
"We've just got to keep doing the same things. It's in our hands at present, but you never know with the weather and so on. We'll take nothing to chance and prepare the same."
