Shifnal make it through to T20 finals day

Shifnal will carry the Shropshire flag after reaching the Birmingham & District League Twenty 20 finals day at Bridgnorth.

The Division Two promotion hopefuls side beat Third Division Newport by 31 runs to earn their place in the last four.

They will now take on Premier Division Walsall in the semis at Cricket Meadow on July 24.

Shropshire captain Steve Leach hit 83 off 57 balls and Harry Chandler 41 off 28, as Shifnal reached 175-8. Rajat Bhatia and Mark Downes claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Bhatia opened with 79 off 54 deliveries, while Downes hit an unbeaten 19 and Chris Murrall took 3-29.

Walsall edged through on fewer wickets conceded as they closed on 152-5, before opponents Smethwick matched them but were seven down.

Bromsgrove, from Division One, and Premier outfit Knowle and Dorridge will contest the other semi-final.

They beat Barnards Green by 20 runs and Kenilworth Wardens by 15 runs respectively.
