[gallery] Marylebone Cricket Club – better known as the MCC – were the special guests as a Shropshire side celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Bomere Heath CC held the prestigious friendly yesterday as part of their celebrations and also to officially open their impressive new £30,000 net area.
The club's groundsman, and MCC member, Andy McIlroy was one of the main driving forces in organising the day.
And McIlroy complemented his off-field work by bagging a couple of wickets on the field – for the visitors! McIlroy turned out for the MCC side and ended the day by picking up two wickets for just three runs as the hosts were beaten by 118 runs.
Former Bomere player Henry Dawson also impressed for the MCC, picking up 4-34 to help dismiss the Shropshire County League side for 124.
Tom Ellis top scored for Bomere and also claimed two wickets as the MCC piled up 242-5.
But the action on the pitch was secondary to the occasion and Bomere chairman Charlie Wigley was delighted with how the day went.
"It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and we are very honoured to have the MCC here as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations," he said.
"Everyone had a good time and it was well supported by the residents of the village.
"It was also the official opening of our new bespoke nets. Many hours of hard work have gone in to raising money for nets along with a donation from the local parish council."
