Oliver Westbury hits a century for England

Shrewsbury cricketer Oliver Westbury sounded further warning of his considerable potential with a sublime century while on debut for England Under-19s.

Westbury's knock of 154 not out helped put England in a commanding position, after the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka A at the Fenners Ground in Cambridge.

Having opened the batting, the 19-year-old took 172 balls to reach his ton in a classy innings which included 11 fours and a six.

It was the latest milestone for Westbury, a member of Worcestershire's Academy who plays for Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League.

He's turned out for Shropshire in Minor Counties action this season.Last summer, he was selected to play for an England Development Programme Invitational XI against Australia Under-19s.

It came after he caught the eye of the selectors by hitting a century for Worcestershire seconds against Nottinghamshire.

A former Shrewsbury School student, Westbury last year became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in a season for the school since former England star James Taylor.

George Panayi, another Shrewsbury player, is also in the England side.
