The 17-year-old is poised to make his Unicorns Minor Counties Championship bow away to Cheshire this Sunday.

The county are looking for a victory to keep their Western Division title hopes alive.

Chandler, who began his cricketing career at Wem and now plays for Shifnal in the Birmingham League, will replace Luke Tinsley behind the stumps.

He admitted the call-up had left him 'absolutely ecstatic,' saying: "I took a call from Leachy (skipper Steve Leach) and he told me I was in the team.

"I think on the phone I managed to keep a head on it but inside I was jumping around! But I feel I'm ready for it, it's what I have been working towards all season.

"I've been trying to push myself as hard as I could in every game. It's that hard work which has paid off."

Shropshire will be aiming to bounce back after losing to Berkshire last time out.

The defeat left them third in the table, just eight points behind leaders Cornwall but knowing there is now little margin for error.

Omar Ali replaces Tom Weston in the only other change for the trip to Cheshire, which takes place at Nantwich CC.

Squad: Leach (Shifnal), Ali (C&R Hawks), Aucott (Worfield), Blofield (Shrewsbury), Carrasco (Oswestry), Chandler (Shifnal), Griffiths (Shrewsbury), Oliver (Reigate Priory), Ralph (Bridgnorth), Wainwright (Castleford), Wyatt (Ticknall).
