A week after being shot out for 67 by West Bromwich Dartmouth in the Williamson Trophy, the London Road men were skittled for just 53 against Barnt Green following a superb spell from Poysden.

The Warwickshire and England Lions player took 5-7 in just 4.3 overs with Ed Barnard the only man to avoid the carnage.

The Worcestershire all-rounder, batting at three, top scored for the 2013 champions with an unbeaten 21.

His brother Michael was the pick of the Shrewsbury bowlers, with three wickets, as Barnt Green reached their target with six wickets to spare, picking up the maximum 20 points.

Wellington’s batsmen were in fine form as they launched their Division One season in fine style.

They racked up a daunting 300-5 against Walmley, who were then dismissed for 180 in reply.

Dan Lloyd top-scored with 83 with skipper Wendell Wagner (79) and Samit Gohil (64) also in fine form as Wellington recovered from 0-1 and 16-2.

Lloyd and Wagner shared a 159-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Jonathan Newis scored 46 for Walmley with Lloyd, Gohil and winter recruit Jack Twigger all bagging two wickets for the hosts.

Shifnal also tasted success on their return to Division One, defeating Shropshire neighbours Bridgnorth by 69 runs.

Shropshire skipper Steve Leach hit a dogged 80 for Shifnal which Jack Edwards built on with a fluent 64.

Leach’s county team-mate Ross Aucott chipped in with 32 as Shifnal set a challenging total of 245 after being 112-5 at one stage.

Bridgnorth’s David Exall finished with 3-42 while there were two wickets apiece for Charlie Morris and Sam Whitney.

In reply, apart from half-centuries for Ryan Lockley (56 not out) and Gareth Mumford (54), Bridgnorth had no answer to Jack McIver (3-18), Edwards (3-21) and Alex Riley (3-43) as they finished on 176-9.

Oswestry opened up their Division Two campaign with an 84-run win over C&R Hawks.

Warrick Fynn was the star of the show for Oswestry with a fine 107 while Joe Carrasco offered support with 58 as the visitors rattled up 263-7.

Fynn then capped a fine all-round display by bagging 3-16 from six overs as Hawks were bowled out for 179. Mark Robinson also enjoyed a good start with the ball, returning figures of 3-26.

Sentinel’s first game in the Birmingham League ended in defeat in a tense affair with county rivals Newport.

Newport posted 259-8 from their 50 overs thanks to a Maz Hasnain (109) and all-rounder Mark Downes (72). Dominic Bradburne was the pick of the Sentinel attack with 2-35.

Sentinel gave the chase a good go before being dismissed for 250 in the 48th over.

David Laird top-scored with 68, Ben Mathews hit 41 and Jamie Wear made 36 while Nick Watkins and Ed Parton picked up three wickets apiece for Newport.
