Byram warns St Georges of a Worfield backlash
Wary St Georges skipper Ben Byram insists he won’t be fooled by Worfield’s early-season struggles.
The two sides meet on Saturday with both looking for their first win of the Henshalls Insurance Shropshire Premier League season.
But Byram expects Worfield, fancied by many for an instant return to the Birmingham League, to come good – but hopes their revival does not start this weekend.
“They haven’t got off to the best of starts but it will be a tough game,” said Byram.
“They are a team that’s going to be pushing for the league and we must make sure there isn’t a backlash against us.
“I was one of those who thought they would be right up there, but it’s early days and there is plenty of time to recover.”
St Georges will be without Ben Miller (work) but fellow spinner Sam Morgan is available.
Azaad Rafiq missed last weekend’s winning draw against Frankton but will be back to replace Emrys Hughes.
And Byram is looking for his team to turn in a similar performance having posted almost 350 and been within two wickets of clinching victory.
“It was frustrating because there was just one partnership that cost us the game,” he added. “There were only two or three of their batsmen that got runs.
“But it was a good response after losing to Broseley on the opening day and if we can play like that again then there’s no reason why we can’t get the points against Worfield.
“But the league is as strong as it has been for many years and we must just take things game by game.”
Elsewhere, it is top against bottom with leaders Broseley hosting Albrighton, while second-placed Whitchurch are away to Madeley.
Market Drayton entertain Newtown in a battle of the two promoted teams and Frankton are away to Wem.
