The Morda Road men are one of just three sides in the league to have won their first two encounters, with their 84-run victory over C&R Hawks followed by last weekend’s thrilling 21-run success against Harborne.

They now embark on a trip to Sutton Coldfield who, relegated from Division One last season, have also made a positive start – winning their first outing before being involved in a tie with Old Elizabethans. They are lying fourth, six points adrift of their visitors.

Last weekend’s victory against Harborne was Oswestry’s first ever success against the Birmingham side who won by 53 runs in the corresponding game last season.

The positive start points to brighter times ahead this year as the Morda Road men chase a return to Division One, but they will be wary of a false dawn. “It’s still early days, but I’d prefer to be in this position than having lost the first two,” said chairman Mike Robinson.

“We’ve got a winning mentality which we didn’t have last season, but we now need to keep it going. In this league we ought to be winning matches.”

All-rounder Warrick Fynn will have his sights set on a third straight century after last week’s 132 off 123 balls, including 18 fours and three sixes, helped set up the Harborne win.
