Shrewsbury lean on Ed Foster for the win
Ed Foster led the way with a sparkling hundred as Shrewsbury made it back-back Birmingham League Premier Division wins.
The London Roaders beat visiting Wolverhampton by six wickets, overhauling the victory target of 251-7 with nine balls remaining.
Worcestershire’s Tom Fell made 62 and Zen Malik (52) scored the bulk of the runs while Shrewsbury’s James Hulton-Harrap took 3-39. After losing two early wickets for 28 and a third at 102, a fourth wicket stand of 147 between Ed Foster (105 not out) and Tim Ward (67) saw Shrewsbury home.
Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell showed his pedigree with a monumental 194 for Brockhampton against Dorridge, an innings which included 25 fours and two sixes as Brockhampton registered a first victory of the campaign by 32 runs.
In division one, Shifnal eased to an 81-run win over Bromsgrove.
Shifnal’s 249-4 was spearheaded by 83 from Connor Dudley and 82 from Steve Leach before Ross Aucott clattered an undefeated 55 to see them to their final total.
Apart from Worcestershire’s Alexei Kervezee (68), the Bromsgrove batsmen struggled against Jack McIver, who took 4-39 as Bromsgrove reached 168 all out.
Bridgnorth are still looking for their first win of the new season after a 157-run defeat by Tamworth at Cricket Meadow.
Tamworth captain Ben Maddox hit 141 after Stuart Burrows (59) laid the platform in Tamworth’s imposing total of 291-7 at Bridgnorth. After the home side crumbled to 55-6, Gareth Mumford (44) added some respectability to the total before they were dismissed for 134.
It was a similar story at Wellington where Barnards Green made 291-9 with George Rhodes (109) and Ryan Tongue (103) putting on 116 for the second wicket. The Shropshire side could only muster 133 all out in response.
Oswestry continued their fine start to life in division two with a 57-run win at Sutton Coldfield. Warrick Fynn (74) took his total of runs for the season over the 300 mark and Xavier Clarke added 45 in Oswestry’s 242-8, with Sutton dismissed for 185.
Promoted Sentinel earned their second win of the season in division three with a 51-run success over Worcester Nomads. Andrew Harrison top scored with 45 in Sentinel’s total of 193 with Dominic Bradburne (4-37) and George Cheshire (4-25) did the damage with the ball.
Newport made just 104 crashed to an eight-wicket defeat to Milford Hall at Audley Avenue.
