Oswestry seeking seventh straight win
Record-breaking Oswestry chase a seventh straight win in the Birmingham League Division Two when Coventry & North Warwickshire are the visitors tomorrow.
The Morda Road men have reeled off six wins out of six after overcoming Old Elizabethans to move 30 points clear at the top of the table in their best start to a league campaign.
They now have a maximum 124 points from those six outings – 65 more than this stage last season, while they are are already in sight of last season’s total tally of 214 points from 22 outings.
Warrick Fynn has been in prolific form this season, hitting a third century in last weekend’s 31-run against Worcestershire club Old Elizabethans, while Pakistani paceman Sadaf Hussain took 5-71 to end the visitors’ resistance.
It has been a dream start after last year’s struggles, but the early leaders will need to keep up the same intensity if they are to continue their run against fifth-placed Coventry & NW.
The key difference this term is that the Morda Road men have seized their opportunities to win games, something they were unable to do last term.
“We have won six out of six, but the three games at home have all been close, and these were the type of games we were losing last season,” said chairman Mike Robinson.
“To win by 31 runs against Old Elizabethans sounds comfortable, but it was anything but, and with 15 overs go to they looked favourites to win.
“Warrick is in the form of his life, but a lot of other batsmen are also scoring runs. We’re posting decent totals and the bowling looks dangerous, and at the moment the only worry is complacency.”
Fynn has enjoyed a remarkable run of form, rattling up 579 runs at an average of 115.8 after cracking his third century of the season – and is well on course to reach 1,000 runs for the first time.
Opener Joe Carrasco returns after missing last week and should be available to partner Fynn at the top of the order for the rest of the season.
