Shrewsbury extend their lead
A clinical bowling performance saw Shrewsbury extend their lead at the top of the Premier Division with a comfortable victory at Ombersley.
The London Roaders ripped through the home batting line-up after winning the toss and putting them in.
Mike Barnard and Ed Foster did much of the damage to finish with figures of 4-28 and 3-33 respectively.
The home side, who had been 49-2 at one stage, collapsed to 71 all out.
Ed Foster, who has been in brilliant form with the bat this season, fell cheaply this time, but skipper Ben Stebbings picked up the baton with a rapid 42 not out off 29 balls to see his side home.
Shifnal skipper Tom Collins is tipping Connor Dudley to go far after the teenager’s ton helped the Division One leaders to victory at Leamington Spa.
Dudley, who has a rookie contract with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash tournament, hit an unbeaten 113 as the visitors chased down 250 with just under 10 overs to spare.
“He won’t be far off the First Class game at some point,” said Collins.
“It was one of the best knocks I have seen for a while, he was exceptional.
“I think he took 28 off one over and he must have hit five sixes through midwicket during his innings.
“To get over the line on a difficult wicket with 10 overs to go was top drawer.”
Eighteen-year-old Dudley, who played for Shropshire in their T20 matches against Birmingham Bears on Friday, was supported by a 49 not out from Jack McIver.
Opener Steve Leach also made 47 but Shifnal were also thankful to a good spell of bowling from Charlie Home (4-34) that had earlier restricted the home side to 250-7.
“We were disappointed with the way we bowled and fielded, it was probably our worst bowling half of the season,” added Collins.
“They got 50 too many. Charlie bowled very well because they were looking at 280 at one stage.”
Bridgnorth were left frustrated by the rain as they closed in on victory in their clash at Himley.
Skipper Sam Whitney had the home side in a spin as they were bowled out for 163 after 52 overs.
Whitney finished with 5-31 which include the wicket of Himley captain and top scorer Greg Wright for 44.
The Cricket Meadow skipper then set about inflicting further damage with the bat as he shared in an opening stand of 73 with Ian Gregory.
Whitney was unbeaten on 57 and his side on 127-3 off 30.3 overs when the weather intervened.
Wellington were skittled out for just 53 as they fell to a five-wicket defeat at Moseley. Just two visiting batsman – Dan Lloyd and Wendell Wagner – reached double figures as they were dismissed inside 25 overs.
Remarkably, Wellington had hopes of victory when Wagner and Martin Delaney reduced the hosts to 19-5.
But an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 35 between Asim Shoaib and Ali Awan saw the hosts home.
Oswestry’s 100 per cent record in Division Two came to an end in the most disappointing way possible when their home match with Coventry & North Warwickshire was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Newport remain top of Division Three after a losing draw at Stourbridge.
A stand of 97 between Josh Banks and Zain Ul-Hassan helped the hosts post 226-5 after Newport won the toss and elected to field.
Newport were well behind the required rate on 81-1 when the match came to a premature end.
The match between Sentinel and Astwood Bank was abandoned after the visitors had reached 208 all out and the home side were on 31 without loss from six overs.
Astwood Bank fell away after Tom Pedley (47) and Ryan Pedley (43) had placed them in a promising position.
George Cheshire (4-55) and Dominic Bradburne (3-63) were the most successful bowlers for Sentinel.
