Dan Lloyd helps Wellington see off bottom club

Dan Lloyd was the star man for Wellington as they ended a poor run of form with a 77-run victory over Attock.

Lloyd top scored with 52 as the home side posted 240-8 from their 55 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat.

Sam Lloyd and Charlie Mackleworth also made vital contributions with 41 and 37 not out respectively.

And Wellington’s total proved more than enough as Lloyd and Samit Gohil did the damage with the ball.

A cluster of wickets saw the visitors, who are bottom of Division One, slip from 52-1 to 83-5.

Lloyd, who cleaned up the tail, finished with 3-45 and Gohil 4-48 as Attock were dismissed for 163 in what was Wellington’s first win since the opening day of the season.

Bridgnorth claimed the last seven Bromsgrove wickets for just nine runs as they recorded an impressive triumph at St. Godwalds Park.

The home side looked to be heading towards a competitive total on 184-3 until their late collapse. Dave Exall claimed the wickets of the top three but it was skipper Sam Whitney who cleaned up the innings to finish with 4-52.

A fourth wicket partnership of 114 between Exall and Simon Gregory as, those two apart, the Bridgnorth batsmen struggled.

But Gregory’s 72 and 69 not out from Exall saw Bridgnorth to a two-wicket success.

High-flying Shifnal were beaten at home for the first time this season when they went down to Himley by four wickets.

After deciding to bat first, Shifnal were indebted to Ross Aucott and Anthony Parker as they reached 259-8 from their 55 overs after being 129-6 at one stage. Aucott hit 96 and Parker 65 but there was little from elsewhere.

The visitors reached their target in the final over, thanks largely to a partnership of 154 for the fourth wicket between Nipun Karunanayake (100 not out) and Daniel Durman (68).

Shifnal skipper Tom Collins said: “We were 20 runs short. We bowled well but their pro and young lad didn’t give us a chance.”
