Ian Bell leads the Bears inquest
Warwickshire suffered their fourth innings defeat of the season at Essex, with skipper Ian Bell admitting there was an ‘honest’ discussion of their failings after the match.
Bears players were locked in the changing room for more than an hour after their innings and 164 runs after being rattled out for just 94 second time around at Chelmsford, in response to the home side’s first innings of 541-9 declared.
And when captain Bell emerged, he said: “There weren’t harsh words said, just a bit of honesty, it’s what you have to do.
“There’s no point running away from poor performances and it’s been a really tough year for us so far. It’s down to the players. The way we’re performing at the minute we’re not doing it. We have to get better.”
“It was all the players there. We just talked honestly. There have been a few of those in my time!
“You can’t paper over cracks, can you? You can’t just wish and cross your fingers things are going to get better. We’re in a professional business and it’s ruthless
“Four-day cricket is tough and we have to be more consistent in our performances.”
