George Panayi wins call for England duty
Former Shrewsbury School pupil George Panayi has been named in the England Under-19 squad to face India.
The Warwickshire academy graduate, who plays for Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League Premier Division, is in contention for two four-day matches.
Seamer Panayi, 19, recently made his full Bears debut in the County Championship match against Lancashire.
England will play a two-day warm-up match against a Unicorns XI in Loughborough on July 19 and 20 before the ‘Tests’, at Queen’s Park in Chesterfield from July 23-26 and then New Road in Worcester from July 31 to August 3.
Andy Hurry, head coach of the Young Lions programme, said: “We had an excellent tour of India earlier this year, when the lads involved learned so much.
“Facing the Indians in a return series this summer provides an excellent opportunity to build on that.”
