Sam Whitney handed Shropshire three-day debut
Bridgnorth skipper Sam Whitney will be handed a Shropshire debut in the Unicorns Championship clash at Devon starting on Sunday.
Spinner Whitney has been included in a much-changed line-up for the three-day match at Sandford, where Devon will include former England wicketkeeper Chris Read in their side.
Omar Ali (C&R Hawks), Will Parton (Shrewsbury), Ross Aucott (Shifnal) and Ryan Lockley (Bridgnorth) all played in the draw at Cornwall but are unavailable due to work commitments.
Charlie Home (Shifnal) is the other change from the last fixture as he is on second XI duty with Northamptonshire. In come Whitney, his Bridgnorth team-mate Simon Gregory, James Ralph, Oswestry captain Robbie Clarke and Knowle & Dorridge seamer Jack Grundy.
Pace bowler Alex Wyatt is included despite feeling unwell at the weekend.
Shropshire skipper Steve Leach said: “There’s quite a few changes but if lads can’t get time off work we have to respect that.
“The players coming in are all worthy of their place, but we are still maintaining a core group of players who have played with us.
“Sam has done really well this season, including in our T20 games against Birmingham, and has perhaps been unfortunate not to get in the three-day side earlier.
“One of the first things I did as captain was to get Jack registered to be able to play for us.
“He bowls tight left-arm seam, and we are short in that department.
“He’s capable of being a quality performer at Minor Counties level.”
