Let’s win it for Mike – that’s the call from Oswestry as they look to seal the Birmingham League Division Two crown in tomorrow’s home clash with Wombourne.

Having already clinched promotion on a day of high emotion, the Morda Road men now want to go one better in memory of popular chairman Mike Robinson.

The club stalwart died just 24 hours before Oswestry completed an 80-run victory over Fordhouses on a poignant day for the club, writes John Bridgwater.

Having secured a return to Division One after an absence of two years, the team’s sights are now on sealing the title as a tribute to Robinson when they take on Wombourne in their last game of the season.

The game will be marked by a minute’s silence with the players wearing black armbands as the club pays tribute to its late chairman.

“The boys will be going all out to win the final game of the season and clinch the title for Mike,” said skipper Robbie Clarke. “He has done so much and for so many of us at this club, we owe it to him.”

Last week’s victory means Oswestry are guaranteed a top-two finish after Pershore’s clash against Sutton Coldfield was abandoned due to the rain.

Halesowen, who trail Oswestry by seven points, managed to beat the weather and secure a win over Penkridge to keep alive their hopes of landing the title.

Clarke’s side, however, will be in no mood to slip up against lowly Wombourne after winning last Saturday’s all-important promotion battle at Fordhouses.

Oswestry go into their last game without leading wicket-taker Sadaf Hussain who has played a major part in their success this season.

The paceman has now returned to Pakistan to prepare for the First Class season.
