Wellington face vital last-day clash
Committee chairman Simon Topper insists Wellington will be leaving nothing to chance as they look to secure Division One survival.
Wellington go to Himley needing five points to ensure they avoid finishing in the bottom two.
Shropshire neighbours Bridgnorth could do them a favour by beating Attock, who are in the drop zone and could still potentially leapfrog Wellington.
An abandoned game would also be enough for Wellington, but Topper insists they want to control their own destiny.
“We have to go out there and do our best to get a result,” he said. “If we win then nothing else matters, we don’t need to worry about bonus points.
“Himley are third and still in with a chance of finishing second and winning promotion, so there’ll be plenty to play for.”
Wellington have lost their last two matches and Topper is hoping the batsmen can fire.
“Our bowling unit is really functioning well at the moment,” he added.
“Two weeks ago we were well beaten at Shifnal but last week against Smethwick, losing the toss was crucial as it was a real bowler’s wicket after the rain. Our bowling unit has been solid for some time and hopefully one or two of the batsmen can step up to the mark this weekend.”
Wellington will have Worcestershire seamer Jack Shantry available and Topper praised his efforts this season.
“Jack has been excellent for us in the second half of the season both with the bat and ball,” added Topper.
Shifnal finish with a mid-table clash at home to Tamworth.
In Division Three, Sentinel go to Streetly and Newport are at Nuneaton.
