Marsh was one of the Shropshire over-50s founder members and was the first captain of the team.

Alongside Brian Perry, who also died this week, he won the Minor Counties Championship in 1973 with Shropshire – also playing for Ludlow, Whitchurch and Oswestry.

Shropshire over-60s captain John Foster said: “Eric was an avid supporter of Shropshire cricket.

“He was actively involved in the organising and running of both the 50s and 60s teams until recently and he was immensely proud of the fact that Shropshire Over 60s made it to the county championship final this year.

“In his time Eric was a very good cricketer and more latterly very knowledgeable about all aspects of the game.

"He will be sadly missed and we send our condolences to his family and friends."
