Foster knock eases Shrewsbury home
Shrewsbury moved up to second in the Birmingham League Premier Division following a seven-wicket victory at Moseley.
Henry Blofield (4-59), Lewis Evans (3-18) and Mike Barnard (3-27) shared the 10 wickets between them for the Shropshire side as they dismissed their rivals for just 152 runs.
Jugdip Nandra top scored with 47 for Moseley but it didn’t take long for Shrewsbury to hit their required total. A brisk 85 from Rob Foster eased his side home to a comfortable win in the 31st over of their reply. Will Parton (34) and Henry Blofield (21) were the other main contributors. The result means Shrewsbury are now just nine points behind league leaders Berkswell.
Meanwhile, in Division Three, Simon Douglas (47) and Maisam Hasnain (42) were the top scorers as Newport won at Lichfield.
The visitors reached 241-9 at the end of their allocation with Nick Richards (5-61) the best of the bowlers for the home side.
But in reply, Lichfield could only manage 183 with Nick Watkins (4-34) and Mark Downes (3-29) wrapping up the game for Newport – a result which leaves them sitting ninth in the division.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for struggling Whitchurch who were convincingly beaten at Rugby.
Matt Ewet hit 117 from 69 balls while skipper Owen Edwards grabbed 96 from 83 deliveries as Rugby raced to 349-6. Whitchurch’s Salim Ahmed avoided much of the onslaught after posting bowling figures of 3-36 – with Daniel Bowen bearing the brunt, his three wicket haul coming at the expense of 89 runs. In reply, Whitchurch were bundled out for 126.
Opener Nadeem Ahmad top scored on 20 while Salim Ahmed added 19 and Bowen 18no.
The result leaves Whitchurch bottom of the table, four points behind Milford Hall and 18 behind Old Elizabethans.
