Gooch has fans in creases at Oswestry event
A packed-out cricket club listened to entertaining and funny tales of the career of England legend Graham Gooch on Friday.
The former test captain was the guest speaker at Oswestry Cricket Club on Friday, recalling stories of his past career to dozens of cricketing fanatics.
Gooch, now an ambassador with Essex County Cricket Club and president of the PCA, shares his time between those roles and after-dinner speaking.
He recalled stories of playing with other famous faces such as Geoffrey Boycott, David Gower and Mike Gatting. He spoke of both old school and modern cricket, and gave an interesting insight into why he believes modern-day cricket had no characters like it used to.
On coming to Oswestry, he said: “It is great to come down to a good club with great facilities like this and lend a hand to them.”
Gooch signed autographs and met with fans, before helping to auction off a number of items.
A signed picture of the old cricket club pavilion went for a high price, and the money raised for the evening was partly going towards the junior cricket section of the cricket club.
