Quatt striving to be top dogs
Quatt will be hoping this is finally the year when they shed their second best tag in the Henshalls Shropshire County Cricket League.
Captain Craig Jones has led his side to the runners-up spot in the Premier Division in 2018 and 2019, while last summer’s reduced format saw them top their group before losing in the play-off final to Wellington.
Jones has added to his ranks with the signing of wicketkeeper/batsman Tom Whitney from Worfield and former Shifnal seamer Euan Wentworth, while the club have also landed an overseas player with West Indian Shakeel Richards arriving from Barbados.
And the Quatt Oval skipper, whose side start the season on Saturday with a trip to Shelton, is expecting another year fighting for title glory.
“There is enough quality in the squad for us to go close,” said Jones, who will be without injured batsman Chris Miller for most of the summer while James Ralph has joined Madeley.
“Have we got enough to get over the line this year? I don’t know, but I will be disappointed if we are not challenging again.
“Tom is a good batsman and hopefully he can come and do what Chris did for us and the additions of Shakeel and Euan will give us more strength in depth.”
