Coach and captain leave Market Drayton Town

Market Drayton Town's skipper and longest serving player, Paul McMullen, has left the club, along with his frequent partner in central defence, Grant Goodhead.

Both were missing from new manager Greg Clowes's line up in Saturday's 3-1 Evo-Stik League win at Bedworth and he said yesterday: "I only want players who are fully committed to our cause. If they are not, it's better that they go."

Arguably Drayton's most inspirational player for the best part of a decade, McMullen was their linchpin as they won a clutch of leagues and cup, climbing to achieve grade four football.

While others faded or moved on, he remained their tallisman as they fought to retain Evo-League status –but more recently, his selection has posed headaches for a succession of managers.

McMullen said: "I think it's best I knock it on the head for the rest of the season. The truth is I've just not been enjoying my football, especially under four different managers in a matter of months."

Town have confirmed that coach Chris Hutchings has left the club. The former Chelsea defender and Wigan manager joined Drayton at the start of the season as assistant to Lee Ebden.
