Shawbury United hope for late drama
Shawbury United manager Dave Richards is hoping there will be another twist in the West Midlands League Premier Division title race.
Richards' third-placed side trail league leaders Lye Town by five points but have two games left to play, rather than the table-toppers' one.
Pegasus Juniors, who sit second, have just their final fixture left to complete while fourth-placed Wolverhampton Casuals also have two matches left.
The Shawbury boss insists the battle to be crowned champions is by no means cut and dried, but they could be presented with a test away to Bewdley Town tonight.
The Worcestershire side lost 1-0 at home to Pegasus on Saturday but were unbeaten in their five previous games, including a 3-2 win against visiting Lye.
Shawbury will be strengthened by the return of goalkeeper Nick Astley and midfielder Jaton Vernon, who were both unavailable for Saturday's 3-2 victory at home to Dudley Town.
Striker Lee Constantine has also declared himself fit after missing two games with a knee injury that sparked fears his season was over.
Richards said: "We have to get three points at Bewdley, but that's easier said than done with the form they have been in. It's always a tough place to go.
"There's still a chance that we can win the title and that's where we want to be. Hopefully, other teams can do us a favour along the way.
"I think there is going to be another twist yet. You never know what can happen in football and we must have hope."
In the League Cup, in-form Ellesmere Rangers host a Sporting Khalsa side likely to be buoyant after a super win at the weekend.
Fifth-placed Khalsa arrive at Beech Grove fresh from an 8-0 rout at Bromyard Town and will fancy themselves for another away day success.
Ellesmere will be taking part in their eighth fixture in just 17 days, but have won six of those games. They defeated another Herefordshire side, Wellington, 3-0 at home on Saturday.
In Division One, a flying Hanwood United make the trip to Gornal Athletic Reserves looking for their ninth victory in succession.
The Villagers have climbed to seventh and defeated Gornal at home on that run, 2-0 on April 12.
