West Midlands League Cup suspend Division One and Two sides for one season
The West Midlands League Cup has been suspended for Division One and Two sides – but Premier Division clubs are to complete the competition.
A fixture backlog has seen all three competitions, which are contested league by league, still to complete the quarter-final stage in most instances.
Most clubs below the Premier don't have floodlights, so midweek games have proved difficult, with their tournament being suspended for a season.
Division One clubs AFC Bridgnorth, Haughmond and Hanwood United were still involved, as were AFC Ludlow and Newport Town in the league below.
But Shawbury United and Ellesmere Rangers will play on in their version of the competition, which it's hoped will be completed by the end of this month.
League chief executive Neil Juggins said: "
We are moving heaven and earth, with the support of the clubs, to get the Premier tournament completed. FA directives state it's close season in June."
Ellesmere Rangers finally complete a gruelling Premier Division fixture list tomorrow and could jump in the top 10 to claim an FA Cup qualifying spot.
The 11th-placed Meresiders have played 15 teams in league and cup since the start of April and have won 12 of those fixtures, reeling off six straight victories.
Rangers visit Wellington, before they contest Tuesday's Shropshire Premier Cup final against Bridgnorth.
Ams also wrap up their league program away to Wolverhampton Sporting Community.
