Former Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford defender Ian Sharps lands Walsall assistant job
Former Shrewsbury and AFC Telford defender Ian Sharps has been named the new first-team coach at League One side Walsall.
The Saddlers agreed compensation with National League outfit Chester to release Sharps from his position as assistant manager at the Blues.
He takes up the role of first-team coach – 18 months after he had been working with the Saddlers on a voluntary basis.
"I feel very privileged to have been offered the job and I can't wait to get started," said the ex-Salop skipper, the replacement for Dean Holden, who moved to Bristol City last week.
"I've known (boss) Jon (Whitney) a couple of years and I got to know the club well when I came here on a voluntary basis about two years ago. I've just passed my A licence so I've got a coaching background.
"I enjoyed my time at Chester but this was too good a prospect to turn down. I'm an ambitious man and I want to continue to progress here."
