Alex Fletcher departs Newtown
Newtown have suffered another blow after midfielder Alex Fletcher left Latham Park to join National League North side Southport.
Fletcher’s departure follows that of top scorer Jason Oswell who has signed for Stockport County, with skipper Shane Sutton also joining AFC Telford United.
Fletcher will link up with new Southport boss Alan Lewer who, until recently, was chief scout at Welsh Premier League rivals Bangor City.
The 20-year-old came through the youth ranks at Shrewsbury Town and, after being released, had a short spell with Ross County before joining AFC Telford United in April 2015.
He moved on to Tividale before signing for Newtown in July 2016 where he scored four goals from 24 (+6) Welsh Premier appearances last season.
Oswell scooped the Welsh Premier golden boot last season with a 22-goal haul that lifted Newtown off the foot of the table and into the play-off semi-finals.
He also bagged 18 goals in a successful first season which saw him help the Robins reach the Welsh Cup final.
