Richard Brown quits as Ellesmere Rangers boss
Ellesmere Rangers manager Richard Brown resigned following last night's 4-1 defeat to FC Oswestry Town in a Shropshire Cup quarter-final.
Rangers have won one game in their last four in all competitions and Brown decided it was his time to step aside.
“I’ve put in a lot of work and threatened to leave before but I think now was the right time for me to walk away and leave someone else to take up the job. I took them as far as I could”, he said.
“Player commitment wasn’t there, certain individuals were not putting the work in and I can’t continue it.
“I told the lads after the game last night and I think a few of them were shell-shocked. I work all week preparing for games Saturday and Tuesday and all we ask is for the lads to turn up and give 100 per cent and unfortunately some don’t”.
Brown, who turned down the manager’s job at Evo-Stik South League side Market Drayton Town in December, has no immediate plans for the future.
“I’m planning to have a break now and hopefully something will come up. I’ll be keeping on the lookout for something”, he added.
Rangers director of football Alan Davis said: “We’re very disappointed with the result last night, we didn’t do ourselves justice.
“We were expecting it to be honest (Brown's resignation), I need to talk to the committee before I can comment any further, but I’m not worried about the future of the club”.
Rangers are yet to announce who will take charge when they travel to sixth-placed Cradley Town in the West Midlands Premier League on Saturday.
