Danny Guthrie departs Oakengates Athletic for new life in Indonesia
Shrewsbury-born midfielder Danny Guthrie has left Sportsjam Regional League side Oakengates Athletic to join Indonesian top-flight outfit Mitra Kukar.
The ex-Liverpool, Newcastle and Blackburn man, 30, had been turning out for Oakengates after being released by Rovers last summer.
A former Thomas Telford student, he grew up in Donnington and was playing under lifelong friend Shaun Hughes for the Sportsjam Premier Division club.
Guthrie had been linked with moves to the United States and Thailand before opting for Indonesia.
His arrival at Mitra Kukar comes after another former Liverpool midfielder, Mohamed Sissoko, left the club.
Endri Erawan, Mitra Kukar CEO, said: “Hopefully he can help bring Mitra Kukar to a better position than last year.
“We need a strong midfielder to help defend and attack.”
Guthrie has also had spells at Southampton, Bolton, Reading and Fulham.
His new team finished 10th out of 18 clubs in Liga 1 last year.
