After going nine games without tasting success in all competitions, Bridgnorth overturned a half-time deficit to claim the West Midlands League Premier Division points.

The second-half performance was particularly impressive as the visitors dominated in all aspects of the game and secured the result that has been evading them recently despite some improved performances.

The first half was an even affair with Bridgnorth’s Anwar Olugbon going close twice, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Ricardo Ricketts.

Keeper Chris Cook helped preserve Bridgnorth’s lead early in the second half with a scrambling save.

As the half wore on, the visitors started to take charge and their efforts were rewarded just after the hour mark by a fine strike from Dominic Heath.

He started the move with a pass to Olugbon, who then backheeled the ball back to Heath, allowing him to drive into the box and cut inside two defenders before nonchalantly curling the ball into the far top corner with the outside of his right foot.

Boosted by the goal, Bridgnorth powered forward to take the lead via a penalty. A neat one-two between Will Reid and Philip Grove ended with Reid being scythed down in the box, with Jason Pike confidently firing home from the spot.

Bridgnorth are back on league duty tomorrow night when they head to Smethwick Rangers.

Tonight’s action sees Shawbury United travel to the Black Country to take on Cradley Town.
