Dean Smith: Fatigue a factor for Aston Villa
Villa boss Dean Smith believes teams are starting to feel the pace of a hectic Premier League season.
Smith admits Villa, who have won just one of their last five matches, are struggling for rhythm but does not believe they are alone in lacking consistency as the most congested campaign enters the final straight.
Recent matches across the league have seen a drop in the levels of intensity and goals scored and Smith said: “There doesn’t seem to be a lot of rhythm in the Premier League in general at the moment, with the exception of Manchester City.
“Nobody has been as consistent as they would like to be and I think we could all say there is an awful lot of fatigue that’s going around at this stage of the season.
“There normally is at the back end of a winter period anyway, without the congestion we’ve had due to the pandemic.
“There’s probably 19 teams searching for rhythm at the moment and we’re one of them. We can’t certainly hide away from that.”
