Landslide 17-0 win is a Shifnal Town club record
Shifnal Town recorded the biggest win in the club’s 57-year history as they went goal crazy against Cannock United.
Danny Carter and Andrew Carrier’s side hammered their West Midlands League Moving Forwards Cup hosts 17-0 in a goal glut on the road.
The rampant scoreline against Division Two Cannock – which was only 6-0 at half-time – had Shifnal historians scrambling for the record books and it has been confirmed as a record win. The victory has also been confirmed as a record away victory in the West Midlands League.
Leading marksman Tom Hill led the way with five goals. An improved and deadly second half saw substitute duo Rees Wedderburn (three goals) and Jake Webb (four) both claim a hat-trick from the bench, the latter’s treble including a couple of beauties.
Also on target were Jay Holdcroft, Kyle Montague, Brad Bood, Harry Cunningham and Mark Webster.
Shifnal have twice finished top of the West Midlands Premier Division before campaigns were cut short. But the Acoustafoam Stadium appear to have bagged promotion as part of the non-league restructure this summer.
Town have also drubbed Bilbrook Santos 7-1 in the West Midlands League’s cup action. Shifnal host Haughmond in the group stage of the Shropshire Senior Cup tomorrow.
