Sam Allardyce: West Brom have given it our best shot

The Baggies are on the brink of being relegated to the Championship and will see their fate confirmed if they lose at Arsenal on Sunday.

Over the last few months, though, the team has made huge strides forward with Allardyce’s men putting in a number of impressive displays without getting the results they deserved.

While his team hasn’t be relegated yet, Allardyce admitted after drawing with Wolves that his team now needs a miracle to survive.

But he hopes fans can see that he, his coaches and all the players have done everything they can to try and survive.

“I can say that the lads have tried their best,” Allardyce said.

“We have tried our best – myself and all the coaching staff and the backroom staff.

“We have all given our all to get the players to maintain our Premier League status.

“We might well fall short but it hasn’t been for the want of trying.

“I hope supporters can see that by the improvements we have made.”

Allardyce has never been relegated before with the boss having famously kept the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, Sunderland and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

But he says if Albion do go down, he will be more upset for the club than he will be for himself.

“I would be more upset for the club than I would be for myself,” the 66-year-old added.

“I wish we were sat here with more points on the board.

“Yes, I would be disappointed to lose my record of always having kept a club up even though I have gone in under difficult circumstances.

“But I would be more disappointed for the club and that I wasn’t able to deliver what they brought me in for – which was to keep them up.”
