RB Leipzig keen on West Brom star Matheus Pereira
Matheus Pereira could be set for a return to Germany with RB Leipzig amongst the club’s interested in signing Albion’s talisman, the Express & Star understands.
The Brazilian has gone from strength to strength in the Premier League this season with the 25-year-old scoring his tenth goal of the campaign against Arsenal last weekend.
With Albion’s relegation to the Championship having been confirmed, it seems highly likely the club will have to cash in on their best player this summer.
Leicester, West Ham, Villa and Leeds are amongst the sides believed to be interested in keeping him in England – with Sam Allardyce saying earlier this week the playmaker is now “very comfortable” in the Premier League.
But Pereira’s displays this season have also attracted interest from abroad with RB Leipzig understood to be keen on the forward.
Pereira is well known in Germany having previously shone for FC Nurnberg.
The former Sporting Lisbon man joined the club on a season-long loan in 2018.
And he was crowned the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Year at the end of the campaign – an honour similar to the PFA’s Young Player of the year award.
Now Leipzig are believed to want to take him back to Germany.
But it is not known how Pereira would feel about a potential return – with the forward having previously said he is happy in England.
While Pereira seems destined to leave The Hawthorns this summer, Albion could have another Brazilian in their squad next season with the club keen on Coventry central midfielder Gustavo Hamer, according to reports.
The 23-year-old was born in Brazil but has represented Holland at under-18 and under-20 level.
Albion will be in the market for midfielders this summer with a return for loanees Okay Yokuslu, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Conor Gallagher unlikely.
