The 26-year-old is due to undergo a medical in the coming days after the clubs reached agreement on a deal which will see Villa initially pay around £35m, though add-ons could eventually push the final value north of the £38m package which brought Emi Buendia from Norwich two years ago.

Torres has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract and is poised to be reunited with former boss Unai Emery, in what is a significant coup for Villa and another statement of the club’s intent.
