Blackburn v West Brom preview: Baggies get a boost just in time for opening day

Albion’s summer desperately needed a summer boost to act as a pick-me-up ahead of the new Championship season and the last couple of weeks have done the job nicely.

The Baggies, understandably due to their strict financial restraints, tested the patience of their pleading supporters by holding out for new signings, but the recent arrivals of Brighton loanee Jeremy Sarmiento and new No.9 Josh Maja have perked up the mood.

The recruits, two exciting attacking players who can ideally combine as a potent threat this season, were a perfect shot in the arm on the eve of the Championship season.

Albion travel up the M6 to Blackburn in good spirits and reasonable shape now.

There is a fair chance that neither Sarmiento – building fitness having only just returned to training after a fractured metatarsal at the Seagulls – or Maja – training on his own this summer – will start at Ewood Park tomorrow.

But their presence alone – both are likely to make the matchday squad – will be a lift to Carlos Corberan, his staff and most importantly the thousands of Baggies in the away end behind the goal.
