Callum Wraight’s delight to secure sponsorship for ‘24 season
The final piece of the jigsaw in Shropshire bowls star Callum Wraight’s promotional package – the backing of major sponsors – is finally in place.
And the Shrewsbury-based bowls king can’t thank them enough for taking the weight off his shoulders as he juggles family and working life with trying to remain at the very pinnacle of the sport. The 37-year-old, who has to cover the cost of travelling thousands of miles to open competitions all over the country, finally got round to approaching companies for help early this year. His reward for the effort was a package of bowls backing that has lifted the financial pressure that comes with his dedication to the game off Wraight, his partner Zoe Edwards and their two young children.
The people and companies on board with the Castlefields legend are Simon Parsonage of Flowfit; Paul Salisbury of PJ Scaffolding; John Paddington of Paddy’s Snack Bar; Mark Taylor of Taylor Support; Tony Gatley of Grange Valley Amusements; Robert Fray of RPF Commercial Repairs; Craig MacDougall of Madlan Electrical; Russell Harris of RAH Travel; and Local Print Pros.
“I cannot thank all of these people enough for their generosity and support with their backing in sponsoring me this season,” said Wraight.
“Word can’t describe just how much their financial support has helped me as the costs involved with travelling to all these competitions I play in are enormous.
“I spend a lot of money on entry fees, petrol, accommodation etc – and all of their support has been vital in helping me try and maintain my place at the top of the sport.
“I had an incredible year in 2022, becoming British Merit champion for the second time and setting a record of 26 for the most amount of tournaments ever won in one season. This year hasn’t quite reached those heights, but I’ve still ended up on 19 titles and counting so it’s still been an extremely successful season – and I’m hoping to continue the streak in 2024.”
And he will do so with continued backing from many of the established sponsors.
“I have already had most of my sponsors commit to supporting me again next year, which is again something I’m extremely grateful for,” added Wraight.
